FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most
Straight answers on process, timelines, revisions, maintenance, and how we approach SEO.
What does the process look like from start to launch?
+
We start with a free consultation to learn about your business and goals. From there we plan the sitemap and content, design the site, help you choose your domain name and purchase it for you, configure DNS and SSL, and launch. Your domain is included in the monthly service, and you'll have a direct point of contact through every step.
What if the domain name I want isn't available?
+
It happens often — the best names go early. We check availability with you during the selection process and, if your first choice is taken, we come back with a short list of strong alternatives instead of leaving you to figure it out. In most cases we find something you like just as much within a day or two.
What alternatives do you recommend when a name is taken?
+
A few approaches work well: add your city or region (waltsconeyislanddetroit.com), add your trade or service (paradiseplumbingmich.com), use a natural short form or initials of your business name, add a small connector word like 'the', 'go', or 'my', or switch the ending — .net, .co, .biz, or an industry ending like .plumbing or .cafe. We generally steer away from hyphens, unusual spellings, and numbers, since those are hard for customers to say out loud or type correctly.
Does an alternative domain hurt my search rankings?
+
No. Search engines rank your website on its content, structure, speed, and local signals — not on getting an exact-match name. A clear, memorable domain with a well-built site behind it performs better than an awkward exact match. Adding your city or service to the name can even help customers understand what you do at a glance.
Can I still get my first-choice name later if it frees up?
+
Sometimes, yes. If the name you wanted is parked or expiring, we can watch it and let you know if it becomes available. If it does and you still want it, we'll purchase it, point it at your site, and redirect the old address so nothing you've built is lost — all handled as part of your service at no extra registration cost.
How long does a typical website take?
+
Most small-business websites launch in about 2 to 4 weeks once we have your content and photos. Larger sites or projects that need custom features take longer. We give you a realistic timeline in writing after the planning call — no surprises.
How do revisions work during design?
+
Revisions are included. We share the design in progress and refine it together until you're genuinely happy with it — colors, layout, wording, and imagery. There's no arbitrary revision cap; we'd rather get it right than rush it out.
What's included in ongoing maintenance?
+
Your monthly plan covers hosting, SSL, security, and uptime monitoring. Content edits, new pages, photo updates, and other requested work are not included in the monthly fee — they're billed separately at our standard rate of $175/hour with a 0.7-hour minimum. You email or call, we quote it and make the change — usually the same day for small edits.
How do you handle SEO?
+
Every site is built with SEO fundamentals in place: clean semantic structure, unique page titles and meta descriptions, fast Core Web Vitals, mobile-friendly layout, image optimization, and a proper sitemap. We do not guarantee specific rankings — anyone who does isn't being honest about how search engines work — but we give your site a strong foundation to earn visibility over time.
What is Local Search Optimization and how does it work?
+
Local Search Optimization is the practice of making your website easy for nearby customers to find when they search for the services you offer in your area. We build dedicated pages for your city, neighborhoods, and service areas, write them around the phrases real customers use, and add local business schema — structured data that tells search engines your name, address, phone, hours, and service area in a language they understand. All of it lives on your own website. No third-party accounts or social profiles required on your end.
What are citations and NAP consistency?
+
A citation is any online mention of your business's Name, Address, and Phone number — usually on a directory or industry site. NAP consistency means those three pieces of information appear the exact same way everywhere they show up: same spelling of your business name, same address format (Ste. vs Suite, Rd. vs Road), and same phone number. Search engines cross-check citations to decide how confident they are that your business is real, established, and located where you say it is. The more consistent your NAP across trusted sources, the more your local visibility improves. We audit what already exists, fix inconsistencies, and prepare your site so it can be listed cleanly on the directories that matter — without you having to log into or manage any of them.
How long does citation and NAP work take, and what milestones do you handle?
+
The first pass — auditing your existing citations, cleaning up inconsistencies, and preparing your site with local business schema — is typically done in the first 2–4 weeks. From there, ongoing directory submissions and consistency checks continue in the background. Most local businesses start seeing measurable movement in local visibility within a few months, though no honest provider will promise a specific date. You don't manage any of it — we handle the audit, the schema, the directory listings, and the consistency checks.
What SEO is included with my website, and can I get more if I need it?
+
Every website we build includes basic SEO out of the box — proper meta tags, unique page titles and descriptions, clean semantic structure, local business schema, mobile-friendly layout, fast Core Web Vitals, image optimization, and a proper sitemap. If you want to go further, we also offer more advanced SEO work and pay-per-click campaign assistance as an optional service. We'll talk through whether it makes sense for your situation — no pressure either way.
How does ownership and the monthly service work?
+
Your domain name is included — we help you choose it, purchase it, and manage it as part of the service, so there's no separate registration fee. To keep your monthly cost low, we own the website and the domain and you lease the service — think of it like your water or electric bill. As long as your account is current, everything stays on and we handle the design, hosting, and security (updates and content changes are billed at $175/hour). If the service isn't paid, the site goes dark, just like a utility being shut off; bring the account current and we turn it back on. If you ever want to purchase the site and domain outright, you're welcome to ask and we'll consider it in writing — we may say yes or no, and pricing is set at that time. We won't reuse your exact business name for anyone else. This arrangement is what lets us deliver a premium website for a small monthly fee instead of a large upfront build.
